Insects - the new animals in our everyday food
The further we go in the 21st century, the more we talk in the world community about sustainable alternatives to our food, like chickens. Every day, this topic is being more and more explored by various institutions and enthusiastic groups, as well as with companies in the food industry and laboratory researchers. There is then a clear reason why insects and sustainable foods interest people at all. The issue of ecology and the use of sustainable lifestyles to take care of our Earth by reducing pollution is much talked about among all of us. We have only one Earth we can and must preserve against pollution. KYTKO works with one of the parts to build a sustainable world, which together with other companies and industries moves forward to the sustainable lifestyle with great strides.
They are small but are very valuable - about chickens
Insects are a very popular food in many places around the world. Although insects are still very new and unexplored in continents like Europe and North America, there are at least two billion people who eat different kinds of insects daily or have tried to eat them in their lifetime. That's probably a big enough number to show how popular alternative food is. Insects are very popular in the eastern part of our world, like in Asia and vice versa - unpopular in the western world. This is partly due to a cultural difference between people. So it may be, that the only thing, that keeps you from eating e.g. crickets are just your prejudices and cultural differences. Now in KYTKO we are concentrated around a small but very potential part of insects - crickets. We believe in this alternative source of useful and healthy bacteria, as crickets contain up to 65% of protein per 100g and are highly replenished with large amounts of other good bacteria and vitamins such as B12 and Omega. Did you know that vegans and vegetarians get their required amount of healthy bacteria and vitamins from the insects that hide in vegetables and that you already eat about 1kg of insects a year from the same vegetables? There is even a rule for how many insects can be in vegetables, because it is impossible to get them all out. Animal feed production is increasingly competing for resources (soil, water and manure) with human food and / or fuel production. This helps to increase the pressure on the environment (eg water supply, deforestation or soil degradation in producing countries). Switching to crickets now can help to save the amount of non-renewable resources, for example water in the near future. Therefore, starting to shift one's daily choices to the more sustainable and thoughtful ones, in terms of nature right now, then it leads to the positive consequences in the future. One of the choices must be about one's daily food consumption and switch to nature-friendly products. Raising crickets requires hundreds of less resources, such as water, food and space. No GMO or other additives are added, so crickets become a completely natural product, which only provides benefits from eating it. Became interested in tasting chickens yourself? See "TEDx" talk about insects as food for humans
In these climate-challenging times, we should optimize our resources, especially in the food production chain. Lars-Henrik Lau Heckmann wonders in his presentation why western countries do not exploit the potential of insects. In addition to eating them, insects can also be used to produce animal feed. It is a circular economy: Insects that live on organic waste become food for pets and fish. And in the near future food for humans. Today, eating insects can seem like a culture shock. However, the environmental and economic benefits of this choice may cause us to change our minds.
